Cacao! Not Cocoa – though they are derived from the same plant. This is one of the most anti-oxidant rich foods that we know of, and I love it in smoothies. Its raw form adds great flavor and texture, and is packed full of iron, magnesium, and of course, the aforementioned antioxidants! So if you have a sweet tooth but are trying your best to stay healthy on your family vacation, this smoothie might just be the perfect balance.
With only a handful of ingredients, like most smoothies, this one is fast and easy to make. And it doesn’t hurt that the handful of ingredients are powerfully good for you. Chia is very high in Omega-3’s, Cacao is packed with antioxidants & iron, and bananas are a great source of potassium.
This recipe makes for a great breakfast or morning snack and is filling enough to keep you going on your family vacation!
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 bananas
- 1 cup strawberries
- 1 cup milk (or milk substitute of your choice!)
As usual, toss all your ingredients into the blender and mix until smooth. If you are using fresh fruit and want to chill the smoothie, try throwing a few ice cubes in the blender as well.
