Eco-friendly Fashion in Kelowna

Many companies and shops in Kelowna create sustainable clothes and/or sell ethically made items. Every shop has its own taste of fashion and motto for earth friendly garments.

Do a little shopping when you’re on vacation and support these local businesses!

Textile Apparel

Their misson is to offer the best in sustainable, fair trade fashion. They are not fast fashion. Instead they offer quality, versatile, seasonless garments that customers can feel good about wearing. Textile Apparel will be opening in April and will consist of 75 per cent sustainable eco-friendly fashion and the rest will be vintage consignment.

Mango + Moose

Mango + Moose is a socially conscious fashion and lifestyle brand, with the purpose of providing opportunities for communities, families, and individuals to thrive. The goal of their team is to bring awareness and revolution to the worldwide marketplace. Mango + Moose offers products that are exclusively created and developed through ethical practices. They work with Artisan partnerships to provide unique, high-quality designs for their customers. Every Mango and Moose purchase directly impacts Artisans by providing a living wage and opportunities creating the ability to flourish. As of 2018, they have partnered with 18 Artisan groups in ten countries: Canada, Haiti, Mali, Nepal, Kenya, Uganda, India, Guatemala, Vietnam, as well as South East Asia.

Nomads Hemp Wear

The founds of Nomads Hemp Wear were inspired by their nomadic lifestyle, living sustainably, and in harmony with their community and their surroundings. They set their eyes on hemp as a new fabric source. After plenty of trial and error, Nomads Hemp Wear found a fabric manufacturer who could help take hemp into the mainstream. They have worked together to develop a variety of stretch textiles ranging from soft, durable hemp fabrics to organic cotton, soy and bamboo, that are unique to their brand. They also take pride in employing fair labor in the construction of all their garments.

Lost Together

Lost Together is a clothing shop designed to make you feel good while supporting sustainable fashion. They encourage the trading of used clothes. If the items are not accepted by Lost Together for resale, they will be donated to a local charity that picks up weekly from the store.  Items left by customers for more than 48 hours that have not been selected for resale are also donated. Lost Together says “Approximately 85 % of clothing ends up in landfills. Statistics suggest that in Canada alone, over 50 pounds per person in clothing ends up in landfills per year. We’re here to help change your style, and the world, one piece of clothing at a time.”

Unless Market

Unless Market is not a clothing store but sells environmentally friendly products made in the Okanagan. They promote a “refill program” which provides consumers with the option to buy common household products in mason jars and/or refill their existing containers rather than buying a new plastic container. They avoid selling disposable products and instead support the use of reusable saran wrap, bamboo straws, bamboo toothbrushes, reusable paper towels, and so on. The products are free of SLS, parabens, formaldehyde, gluten, phosphate, petroleum, tricolsan, fragrance and dyes.

With the current push towards building a more sustainable future, these companies (like many others) are helping locals and visitors live a less wasteful, more purposeful life!
